Consular Services
Consular services are provided on an equal, impartial, efficient and transparent basis.
Consulates ensure all co-nationals protection against the violation of their fundamental rights and the limitation or privation of their personal freedom. They also ensure emergency assistance, help in locating family members, inheritance procedures initiated abroad and for the repatriation of mortal remains.

IMPORTANT NOTICE : Italian Embassy in Sri Lanka doesn't have any official interpreter/translator, and anyone who claims to be an 'official' or 'registered' translator for us is actually giving false information to the public.
Access to the consular office
In order to improve the service, we are glad to announce that starting from 21/10/2022 a new online system for booking appointments for consular services is available at this link https://prenotami.esteri.it/. Access to consular offices is now therefore possible - except for the request of issuance of Emergency travel documents (ETD), which will remain on a walk-in basis - only by appointment. In case of emergency or urgency, for Italian citizens it is always possible to show up at the Embassy without appointment (Monday to Thursday 9.30-12.30 am).
Once logged in the system, it will be possible to select the category of service requested (passport renewal, civil status and registry, notary deeds, pensions) and the desired date and time. For all categories of services not explicitly mentioned in the drop-down menu (except for legalizations, which will continue to be handled by Forsiter), please select the item "all other consular services".
Please pay special attention to the booked appointment category. In the event of an error during the booking process, it will be necessary to cancel the appointment and make a new booking. New online appointment slots will be opened on a weekly or monthly basis. If no appointment slots are available at a given time, we recommend that you wait a few days and then try again.
