Legalizations

The Embassy of Italy in Colombo, as part of the initiatives taken to protect users from the spread of Covid-19 and with the aim of improving the procedures of the consular services offered, informs that the delivery of consular service for the legalization of documents issued by the Sri Lankan authorities will take place exclusively by courier.

This service will be active, on a trial basis, from the 14th of September 2020 for all documents issued from and for residents of every district in the country with the exception of Gampaha, Colombo and Puttalam, where the service will start on a trial basis from the 21st of September 2020.

Personal presentation of any application will therefore no longer be necessary, nor will appointments be granted (through Prenota Online or email).

The entire new procedure will be carried out in collaboration with important service providers in the country, considered among the best available in Sri Lanka, which include Pronto Lanka, Forsiter Global Services and International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Requests for legalization can therefore be submitted exclusively to the Pronto Lanka branches enabled for this service (link), which will then forward the accepted legalization applications, on the same day, to the Embassy of Italy for their verification, translation and legalization.

IMPORTANT: In this regard, we inform you that translations into Italian will be exclusively provided by Forsiter Global Services and translations in Italian made by other translators will NO longer be accepted.

The list of reference translators of this Embassy remains valid for all other consular services offered by the Italian Embassy in Colombo for which translation into Italian is required.

The Embassy of Italy invites you to attentively read the attached instructions and provisions, which must be carefully followed to avoid sending incomplete or incorrect applications.

The new service was established in the interest of users and the new procedure, for which this Embassy must expend a considerable additional effort, will allow the elimination of waiting lists created in the past and unnecessary travel around the country.

The Embassy of Italy in Colombo would like to thank all users for their kind cooperation and invite you to report any inefficiencies found or improper requests for undue sums of money to the consolare.ambcolombo@esteri.it email address.
