{"id":176,"date":"2023-04-11T18:19:16","date_gmt":"2023-04-11T12:49:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/servizi-notarili\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T14:38:44","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T09:08:44","slug":"servizi-notarili","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/servizi-notarili\/","title":{"rendered":"Notary Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pursuant to Article 28(1) of Legislative Decree No. 71\/2011, the Consular Office performs limited notarial functions <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>exclusively for Italian citizens<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>SIGNING A POWER OF ATTORNEY: HOW TO PROCEED<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Italian citizens who need to sign a power of attorney (special or general) must send the following to the Consular Office email (<a href=\"mailto:consolare.ambcolombo@esteri.it\">consolare.ambcolombo@esteri.it)<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>an editable draft of the power of attorney, prepared by the notary before whom the relevant deed will be executed in Italy;<\/li>\n<li>all details concerning the principal, the attorney-in-fact, and the subject matter of the power of attorney.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>POWERS OF ATTORNEY GRANTED BY FOREIGN NATIONALS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If the person wishing to grant a power of attorney is a foreign national, the Consular Office <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>cannot<\/strong><\/span> execute the instrument.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In such cases, the power of attorney must be signed before a notary public in Sri Lanka or the Maldives. The notary\u2019s signature must then be legalized in accordance with the procedure described in the section <a href=\"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/traduzione-e-legalizzazione-dei-documenti\/\">Translations and legalization of documents<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>AUTHENTICATION OF SIGNATURES PHOTOGRAPHS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Signature authentication consists of certification by a consular officer that the signature was affixed in the officer\u2019s presence by the person concerned. Photograph authentication, on the other hand, consists of certification that the photograph is a true likeness of the person identified by the consular officer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This service is available by appointment only.
