{"id":179,"date":"2023-04-11T18:20:09","date_gmt":"2023-04-11T12:50:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/autoveicoli-e-patenti-di-guida\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T17:40:19","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T12:10:19","slug":"autoveicoli-e-patenti-di-guida","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/autoveicoli-e-patenti-di-guida\/","title":{"rendered":"Motor vehicles and driving licences"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"41\" data-end=\"838\">Pursuant to Circular 107\/97 of the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, holders of an Italian driving licence who are resident or staying for at least 6 months in non-EU countries may obtain, from the competent Italian diplomatic or consular authorities, confirmation of the validity of their Italian licence, provided it has expired no more than five years earlier and does not fall within the cases set out in Article 119, paragraphs 2-bis and 4 of the Highway Code (licences held by drivers suffering from diabetes or whose psychophysical fitness must be certified by special medical boards). Applicants must undergo the required medical examination to verify their psychological and physical requirements, after which the Consular Office will issue a specific renewal certificate.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"840\" data-end=\"1055\">The Italian driving licence for which confirmation of validity is requested must be intact, lawfully held, and either approaching expiry (from 4 months before the expiry date) or expired for no more than five years.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1057\" data-end=\"1382\">Applicants must undergo the required medical examination with one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/well-regarded-doctors\/\">well rewarded doctors<\/a>\u00a0 for the assessment of their psychological and physical requirements, and therefore of their fitness to obtain confirmation of the validity of their licence, after arranging an appointment directly with one of these doctors.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1384\" data-end=\"1623\">Once the medical examination has been completed and the relevant medical certificate obtained, the applicant may book an appointment online on the Embassy\u2019s website (Prenot@mi) and attend on the scheduled date with the following documents:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1625\" data-end=\"1964\">\n<li data-section-id=\"w48vo0\" data-start=\"1625\" data-end=\"1695\">the driving licence for which confirmation of validity is requested;<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1f0zl63\" data-start=\"1696\" data-end=\"1732\">a valid Italian identity document;<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"4ttl02\" data-start=\"1733\" data-end=\"1763\">2 passport-size photographs;<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"154klko\" data-start=\"1764\" data-end=\"1801\">the medical certificate (as above);<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"iam7bx\" data-start=\"1802\" data-end=\"1872\">proof of residence\/domicile within the jurisdiction of this Embassy;<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"moript\" data-start=\"1873\" data-end=\"1964\">application form for confirmation of the validity of the driving licence (download here).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1966\" data-end=\"2297\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">The renewal carried out at a diplomatic or consular Representation is valid for driving both in Italy and abroad.<br data-start=\"2079\" data-end=\"2082\" \/>Once residence or domicile in Italy has been re-established, the driving licence must be confirmed by the competent central office of the Department for Transport, Navigation and Information and Statistical Systems.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Pursuant to Circular 107\/97 of the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, holders of an Italian driving licence who are resident or staying for at least 6 months in non-EU countries may obtain, from the competent Italian diplomatic or consular authorities, confirmation of the validity of their Italian licence, provided it has expired no more [&hellip;]","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"parent":170,"menu_order":16,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-179","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/179","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=179"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/179\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":3123,"href":"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/179\/revisions\/3123"}],"up":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/170"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=179"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
