On the day of the appointment, applicants must appear in person and submit the following documentation:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"532\" data-end=\"1028\">\n<li data-start=\"532\" data-end=\"757\"><strong data-start=\"534\" data-end=\"558\">Marriage certificate<\/strong> (or an extract copy thereof) issued by the competent Sri Lankan or Maldivian Civil Registry Office. The certificate must be legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka or the Maldives;<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"758\" data-end=\"796\"><strong data-start=\"760\" data-end=\"795\">Valid passports of both spouses<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"797\" data-end=\"1028\"><strong data-start=\"799\" data-end=\"859\">Application for registration of the marriage certificate<\/strong>, using the relevant <a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/modulo_richiesta_trascrizione_matrimonio-2025.pdf\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"880\" data-end=\"993\">form<\/a>, duly completed, dated and signed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1030\" data-end=\"1544\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">As the authenticity of documents issued in Sri Lanka and submitted to the Embassy may be subject to verification by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), as explained in the <a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/traduzione-e-legalizzazione-dei-documenti\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"1218\" data-end=\"1388\">\u201cTranslations and Legalizations\u201d<\/a> section of this website, the documents will be forwarded to the competent Italian Municipality only once these verification procedures have been completed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A marriage involving an Italian citizen and celebrated abroad produces legal effects in Italy only after the marriage certificate has been registered in the civil status records of the competent Italian Municipality.
