{"id":4051,"date":"2025-07-22T16:38:36","date_gmt":"2025-07-22T11:08:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/?page_id=4051"},"modified":"2026-09-09T09:47:00","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T04:17:00","slug":"registration-of-a-death-certificate-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/stato-civile\/registration-of-a-death-certificate-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Registration of a Death Certificate"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\">The death of an Italian citizen occurring abroad must be registered in the Civil Status Records of the competent Italian Municipality (the Municipality of last residence in Italy, AIRE registration or birth).<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">To request the registration, an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>appointment<\/strong><\/span> at the Embassy <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>must be booked through the\u00a0<a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/prenotami.esteri.it\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"340\" data-end=\"381\">Prenot@mi<\/a>\u00a0portal<\/strong><\/span>, and the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>following documentation<\/strong><\/span> must be submitted:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"442\" data-end=\"1236\">\n<li data-section-id=\"oaylpg\" data-start=\"442\" data-end=\"894\">death certificate\u00a0issued by the Sri Lankan or Maldivian Civil Registry Office having jurisdiction over the place where the death occurred. Before being submitted to the Embassy, the certificate must be submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, which must issue the relevant certification.\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Please note<\/span>:\u00a0the certification must refer to the authority that issued the civil status record and not to any translations or registers;<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"vghfk9\" data-start=\"895\" data-end=\"1031\">copy of the deceased\u2019s Italian passport\u00a0and a copy of the identity document or passport of the person requesting the registration;<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"o06fh8\" data-start=\"1032\" data-end=\"1236\"><a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Richiesta_trascrizione_atto_morte-03.2023.pdf\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"1036\" data-end=\"1199\">application form for registration of the death certificate<\/a>, duly completed, dated and signed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once any necessary checks on the authenticity of the documentation have been completed, with the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the original documents will be forwarded to the competent Italian Municipality for registration.\u00a0The original documents submitted cannot therefore be returned.<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>FORMS<\/strong><\/span><a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ambcolombo.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Richiesta_trascrizione_atto_morte-03.2023.pdf\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"1036\" data-end=\"1199\">Application form for registration of the death certificate<\/a>,<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The death of an Italian citizen occurring abroad must be registered in the Civil Status Records of the competent Italian Municipality (the Municipality of last residence in Italy, AIRE registration or birth).
