The Sri Lankan post office dedicated a stamp to the Italian inventor, while the President of the Marconi Foundation, Dr. Giulia Fortunato delivered a presentation on the figure of the Italian Nobel Prize winner. The ceremony was preceded by the unveiling of a portrait of Marconi placed in the gallery of illustrious personalities from the scientific world located inside the historic building of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The event took place in front of a large audience including journalists and many Italian and saw institutional participation of the highest level: the Prime Minister, Dinesh Gunawardena, who also gave a greeting, the speaker of Parliament, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, as well as the Minister of Communications, Bandula Gunawardane, and numerous members of Parliament, together with the Italian Ambassador.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"&nbsp; &nbsp; The Italian research day has been celebrated in Colombo on 29 April with a ceremony dedicated to Guglielmo Marconi, whose 150th birth anniversary is this year.
