Damiano Francovigh
Born in Udine on 29th November 1966, he graduated at the University of Venice in 1991.
After previous professional experiences, following a competitive examination, in 2002 he joined the diplomatic service.
His first assignments in Rome was at the Directorate General for Cultural Promotion and then at the Directorate General for Middle East.
In 2005 he was posted as second secretary at the Italian Embassy in Damascus, where he held the positions of head of the commercial office and of the consular chancery.
In 2010 he was posted as first secretary at the Italian Embassy in Hanoi, where he was deputy head of Mission and head of the commercial office.
In 2013 he returned to Rome to take up service at the Directorate General for Development Cooperation, as head of Department III of the same Directorate (Middle East Countries).
In 2016 he took over as Consul General in Kolkata.
In 2020 he returned to Rome to take up service at the Directorate General for the Promotion of the Country System as head of the Department coordinating the activities of the Italian Trade Promotion Agency.
In 2023 he was appointed Ambassador of Italy to Sri Lanka and non-resident Ambassador to Maldives.
He is married, with one son.
In 2018 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
