Colombo Crime Division has arrested a group of scammers who promised entry visas in exchange for money. A woman and two other people were arrested in connection with the incident.

Service:

After the Italian Embassy in Colombo reported to the local authorities that unauthorized external intermediaries were offering various services to visitors, the Inspector General of Police launched an investigation that revealed the presence of a group of scammers made up of three people, including a woman.

The scammers requested 2 million rupees for the issuance of the visa, in addition to a sum of 200 thousand rupees to obtain priority appointments for the submission of visa applications, for a total of 2, 6 million rupees. All promises, of course, without any basis.

Following investigations, the three suspects were arrested, taken to the Colombo Crime Division offices for statements and subsequently arrested.

We therefore remind all those who need Embassy services not to listen to brokers who promise preferential access because these are false promises made in violation of Sri Lankan and Italian laws.
