Notary Services

Pursuant to Article 28(1) of Legislative Decree No. 71/2011, the Consular Office performs limited notarial functions exclusively for Italian citizens.

SIGNING A POWER OF ATTORNEY: HOW TO PROCEED

Italian citizens who need to sign a power of attorney (special or general) must send the following to the Consular Office email (consolare.ambcolombo@esteri.it):

  • an editable draft of the power of attorney, prepared by the notary before whom the relevant deed will be executed in Italy;
  • all details concerning the principal, the attorney-in-fact, and the subject matter of the power of attorney.

POWERS OF ATTORNEY GRANTED BY FOREIGN NATIONALS

If the person wishing to grant a power of attorney is a foreign national, the Consular Office cannot execute the instrument.

In such cases, the power of attorney must be signed before a notary public in Sri Lanka or the Maldives. The notary’s signature must then be legalized in accordance with the procedure described in the section Translations and legalization of documents.

AUTHENTICATION OF SIGNATURES PHOTOGRAPHS

Signature authentication consists of certification by a consular officer that the signature was affixed in the officer’s presence by the person concerned. Photograph authentication, on the other hand, consists of certification that the photograph is a true likeness of the person identified by the consular officer.

This service is available by appointment only. Appointments can be booked through the portal https://prenotami.esteri.it.
