1 Application Form
Completed visa application signed by the applicant. Applications of minors should be signed by both parents.
2 One recent ICAO-compliant colour photograph
Full face on white background. The photograph must be attached to the application form.
3 Current Passport
Passport must have at least two blank pages and be valid for a period of at least 3 months beyond the date of return to Sri Lanka. Copies of the bio-data pages of the current and previous passports must also be provided.
4 Covering Letter
Covering letter drafted by the applicant and explaining the travel plan and purpose of the visit.
5 Invitation from the Italian company/institution
Letter signed by an officer of the inviting company whose name is clearly listed as an authorized representative on the “Visura Camerale”, which must also be provided as supporting evidence.

The letter must specify the purpose and duration of the stay and include a detailed explanation of the commercial or business purpose. A copy of the passport of the officer signing the invitation letter must also be included in the application.

The letter must clearly specify who will be responsible for covering the applicant’s travel and accommodation expenses.

If applicable, evidence of previous commercial or business relations between the inviting company in Italy and the applicant’s company in Sri Lanka must also be provided.

6 International Fairs/Exhibitions, if applicable
Documentary proof of full payment for the stall, documents relating to the exhibits being exported, and proof of payment of the fair or exhibition entrance fees and registration details.
7 Proof of Business
Covering letter from the Sri Lankan company indicating the purpose of the visit, the applicant’s professional status, leave approval, who will bear the travel and additional expenses, a brief description of the local company profile and details of the business relationship with the Italian company.

Company business registration and/or Memorandum of Association and/or Articles of Association, company bank statements for the last 3 months, and company income tax payment slips, annual reports, balance sheets and/or audit reports must also be provided.

7B Proof of Employment / Financial Guarantees
Confirmation letter from the employer regarding approved paid or unpaid leave, salary slips for the last 3 months, EPF and ETF contribution statements, personal income tax payment slips, personal bank statements for the last 12 months, including current, savings and fixed-deposit accounts, and the most recent credit card statements.
8 Confirmed Hotel Reservation or Proof of Hospitality
Confirmed hotel reservation or proof of hospitality offered by the Italian company or institution.
9 Foreign Exchange
Letter from the bank stating the issuance of foreign exchange upon receipt of the visa.
10 Insurance
Travel, medical and accident insurance policy covering the entire travel itinerary, with minimum coverage of €30,000.
11 Confirmed Flight Ticket Reservation
Confirmed flight ticket reservation issued by an airline or travel agency.
12 Proof of Previous Travel, if any
Copies of visas issued during the last two years by Schengen countries, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Please note

  • The Embassy reserves the right to request further documentation if and when required.
  • All documents should be provided in original, accompanied by one set of photocopies in A4 size.
  • Documents in Sinhalese, Tamil or any other language must be presented with an official English translation and certified by the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • For non-Sri Lankan nationals, documents must be certified by the respective Embassy, High Commission or Consulate based in Colombo.
